Turkey's Headscarf Debate - NY TIMES

This video is on 3 women living their lives with the veil. It shows that not all women are forced to wear a veil and how some women are becoming active to make a stance on the oppressive nature of society to those who do wear the headscarf. Some women are restricted from getting an education, like in Turkey - Women are denied access to a college education if they wear a headscarf as a Muslim woman.

WTF IS THAT ABOUTTT? Shouldn't it be about choice? Women in countries around the world at times do have the ability to choose to wear a headscarf/veil who are we to make them feel bad for their decision???

Connecticut ruling for ban on same-sex marriage is overturned

Its about time... CT is the third state in the country to legalize gay marriage. Now we all know that marriage isn't right for everyone - some ppl are completely content with remaining single in the eyes of the government/society whereas others are overjoyed by long overdue opportunity granted to same-sex couples. Marriage can mean economic/legal/personal benefits - it can help those strengthen their relationship or simply provide a same-sex couple the protection that every other heterosexual couple is privy to. The court ruling overturning the lower courts decision to ban same-sex marriage in CT is providing choice to same-sex couples as opposed to denying them the same opportunity as hetero couples in this hegemonic society.

Anywho take a look at the article... this is just one more state closer to a country of actual choices and true democracy.

Palin - Legislative Panel finds that she unlawfully abused her power...

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- A legislative committee investigating Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has found she unlawfully abused her authority in firing the state's public safety commissioner.

The investigative report concludes that a family grudge wasn't the sole reason for firing Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan but says it likely was a contributing factor.

The Republican vice presidential nominee has been accused of firing a commissioner to settle a family dispute. Palin supporters have called the investigation politically motivated.

Monegan says he was dismissed as retribution for resisting pressure to fire a state trooper involved in a bitter divorce with the governor's sister. Palin says Monegan was fired as part of a legitimate budget dispute.

Palin is against abortions even for victims of rape and incest. She thinks that homosexuality is a choice to be made. Palin claims she's a feminist because she chopped wood and "ran around with the boys" when she was young... I mean just because Palin didnt have any gender differences in her household doesnt mean that women in America are completely equal and have the same opportunities as men (and i doubt her household was completely gender neutral). If she were a real feminist she'd be well aware of this. Not everyone has the same economic or educational opportunities to achieve anything that any other man can do, i mean really Palin?

Oh yea and she never answers the questions that are asked. Palin avoids each direct question by going off on something else... if she keeps on like this as a VP we'll never know wtf she's talking about.
